Viaggio nella storia di una famiglia nobile:  la famiglia Rothschild Abbaye de Vaux de Cernay

Ci sono molti luoghi magnifici nel mondo ma questo di cui vogliamo parlarvi oggi ha del Magico; poiché oltre alla bellezza qui entra in scena la fantasia che si eleva e diventa senza fine.

Laurent de Gourcuff,  fondatore del noto gruppo Francese Paris Society (che detiene uno tra i più bei ristoranti di Parigi), aggiunge alla sua collezione una proprietà eccezionale, la “mia casa di campagna” – come lui stesso ama definirla –  i cui lavori di ristrutturazione sono durati più di quattro anni e il cui interior design è stato affidato alla visionaria designer francese Cordelia de Castellane, poliedrica artista e direttore creativo di Dior Maison.

Il nome del luogo, ‘Abbaye de Vaux de Cernay’ trae origine dall’antica Abbazia Cistercense  del 1118 (che già nel 1147 contava più di duecento monaci), di cui ancora oggi rimangono i resti e il rosone centrale.

Nel 1873, la Baronessa Rothschild, già proprietaria di un meraviglioso hôtel particulier nel cuore di Parigi, si innamora di questo luogo e decide di edificare una casa di campagna e di restaurare gli spazi attorno, tra cui l’antico refettorio dei monaci che oggi Paris Society ha destinato a magica sala colazione dell’hotel.

Questo luogo così carico di passato, pieno di mobili antichi e di storie straordinarie, è stato restaurato in modo egregio da De Castellane per volere di Laurent Gourcuff, che ne ha enfatizzato la bellezza,  rafforzato il carattere e reso fantastico ogni ambiente con un sapiente uso di tessuti e con una scelta meticolosa di accessori e complementi. 

La cura maniacale verso ogni dettaglio è davvero incredibile. Vi basti pensare che l’interior designer ha creato un pattern dedicato all’Abbaye, una ‘toile de Jouy’ (iconico disegno per tessuto Francese che riprende motivi campagnoli su sfondi dai colori pastello) che viene qui sapientemente inserita in broccati di seta rosa che decorano i paraventi, o declinata in verde con cervi e personaggi da fiaba fantastica usciti dalla fantasia di Cordelia De Castellane per il servizio di piatti del ristorante ‘Les Chasses’, vecchia sala dei trofei di caccia dei Rothschild e oggi ristorante signature dell’hotel.

Oggi questo luogo torna letteralmente a splendere e si amplia. Oltre alle camere e ai saloni presenti nel corpo centrale, sono state ristrutturate le antiche stalle per i cavalli, immerse nel parco attorno all’Abbazia, che oggi sono diventate delle camere moderne e confortevoli. Sempre nella zona delle stalle, è stata ricavata una meravigliosa SPA in collaborazione con il noto brand di Skin Care Tata Harper, che combina le tecnologie più innovative con un approccio olistico naturale. Tra le varie facilities della Spa vi sono anche due vasche idromassaggio, una sauna, uno steam bath e una piscina esterna riscaldata a 28 gradi in autunno e inverno. È meraviglioso stare dentro l’acqua, completamente circondati dal verde della natura, con la vista del lago attorno, quando fuori è ancora freddo.

Questo locus amoenus è poi ideale per trascorrere un week-end fuori porta con la propria famiglia. Ci sono moltissime attività da poter fare tra cui: le sessioni di Yoga e Workout offerte, una gita in barca (con noleggio gratuito per i clienti dell’hotel) con cui attraversare il lago che costeggia l’Antica Abbazia, i campi da tennis o la visita alla Fattoria dell’Abbaye, piena di animali, tra cui i rari alpaca. Vi è anche una gaming room con tantissimi videogiochi e (sinceramente amata sia dagli adulti che dai bambini), un cinema che trasmette almeno due film al giorno, un kids club e delle bici a disposizione degli ospiti per girare in tutto il parco o fare lunghe passeggiate nel bosco circostante. 

A livello di ristorazione l’offerta è ampia e variegata. Oltre ‘Les Chasses’, il ristorante di alta cucina francese, da ‘L’auberge’ vi troverete a perfetto agio attorno al caminetto, con una cucina generosa e amicale; per gli amanti del cibo italiano, il ristorante ‘La Trattoria’ è il luogo ideale per gustare delle ottime tagliatelle al tartufo, della pizza ai quattro formaggi autentica e un buonissimo Aperol Spritz, come a Milano. La Domenica poi, il ‘Refettorio dei Monaci’ diventa il luogo di ritrovo per un brunch eccezionale. Ostriche, champagne, crostacei di tutti i tipi, piatti salati preparati espressi su postazioni live, musica dal vivo e una selezione di dolci da far invidia alle più importanti pasticcerie di Parigi. Se chiudete gli occhi poi, il luogo è così suggestivo che vi sembrerà di poter vedere il mago Harry Potter in persona e, come in un suo film, sarete immersi in un’atmosfera di pura magia.

Che siate in coppia, con amici, o in famiglia, questa dimora di campagna vi regalerà dei momenti davvero unici e indimenticabili.

There are many magnificent places in the world but this one we want to talk about today has the pure magic; because besides the beauty here, comes in the fantasy that rises and becomes endless.

Laurent de Gourcuff, founder of the well-known French group Paris Society (which manages some of the most beautiful restaurants in Paris), adds to his collection an exceptional property, “My  country house” – as he himself likes to call it –  whose renovation work lasted more than four years and whose interior design was entrusted to the visionary French interior designer Cordelia de Castellane, a poliedric artist and creative director of Dior Maison.

The name of this place, ‘Abbaye de Vaux de Cernay’ originates from the ancient Cistercian Abbey of 1118, which in 1147 had yet more than 200 monks living around it. Today the central rose window and part of the construction is still visible inside the gardens of the property.  In 1873, the Baroness Rothschild, already owner of a wonderful hôtel particulier in the heart of Paris (today it has recently become a restaurant always of the Paris Society  group which we will speak about in another article) falls in love with this place and decides to build a country house and restore the surrounding spaces, including the old refectory of the monks that today the new management has destined as magical breakfast room of the hotel.

This place so full of history, full of antique furniture and extraordinary stories, was restored in a magnificent way by De Castellane emphasizing its beauty, strengthening its character and made every room fantastic with a wise use of fabrics and a meticulous choice of accessories and complements.
The maniacal care for every detail is really incredible. Just think that the interior designer has created a pattern dedicated to the Abbaye, a ‘toile de Jouy’ (iconic French fabric’ design that takes country motifs on pastel backgrounds) which is here cleverly inserted in pink silk brocades that decorate the walls or declined in green with deer and fantastic fairy characters from the Cordelia De Castellane’s fantasy for the porcelain service at the restaurant ‘Les Chasses’, old Rothschild hunting trophy room and now the hotel’s signature restaurant.
Today this place literally shines again and expands. In addition to the rooms,suites and huge linving rooms in the main building ( including the suite of the Baron and Baroness) , the old stables for horses have been renovated, immersed in the park around the Abbey, which today have become modern and comfortable rooms. Also in the site of the stables, a wonderful SPA has been created in collaboration with the well-known Skin Care brand Tata Harper that combines the most innovative technologies with a holistic natural approach. Among the various facilities of the Spa there are also two hot tubs, a sauna, a steam bath and an outdoor pool heated to 28 degrees in autumn and winter. It is wonderful to be in the water, completely surrounded by the green of nature, with the view of the lake around when it is still cold outside.

This locus amoenus is ideal to spend a weekend away with your family. There are in fact many activities to do including: Sessions of Yoga and work out offered by the property, boat trips ( with free rental boats for hotel guests) with you can cross the lake that borders the Ancient Abbey, the tennis courts or  the Abbaye farm , ideal to visit with your children considering it’s full of animals, including rare alpacas. There is also a gaming room with lots of video games (sincerely loved by both adults and children), a cinema that shows at least two films a day, a kids club and bikes available to guests to walk around the park or take long walks in the surrounding forest. 

The catering offer is wide and varied. Besides ‘Les Chasses’, the restaurant of French haute cuisine, in the restaurant ‘L’auberge’ you will find yourself at your best around the fireplace, with a generous and friendly cuisine and for lovers of Italian food, the restaurant ‘La Trattoria’ is the ideal place to enjoy excellent truffle tagliatelle, authentic four cheese pizza and a delicious Aperol Spritz as in Milan. On Sunday, the ‘Refectory of the monks’ becomes the place to be  for the exceptional brunch. Oysters, champagne, crustaceans of all kinds, savoury dishes prepared on live stations, live music and a selection of desserts to make envy the most important bakery in Paris. If you close your eyes then, the place is so evocative that you will feel like you can see the magician Harry Potter in person and as in his movie, you will be immersed by an atmosphere of pure magic.

Whether you are in couple, with friends or family, this extraordinary country house will give you truly unique and unforgettable moments.
